The Foodies Guide to Flying ☕🥞🌮🍔

The “hundred dollar burger” has evolved quite a bit over the last few years. At one point, all airports had were classic “greasy spoons,” but my, how things have changed.

Below are some of our favorite modern, and still classic, destination eats.

  • Camarillo (KCMA) – the Waypoint Café, a well-known location with excellent food and weekly specials. Make a reservation and be on time!
  • Montgomery Field (KMYF) Mexican – try Casa Machado for a fly-in Mexican feast! If you end up in Santa Maria (KSMX), you can also put their Mexican food to the Angelino test.
  • A Classic Diner-style Breakfast at Fox Field (KWJF) – still a greasy spoon and still a classic, Foxy’s Landing! This locale holds a special place in my heart as I grew up flying in with my grandfather in his Navion from VNY for breakfast.
  • Voyager Restaurant at Mojave (KMHV) – grab a spacey bite around an eclectic crowd at Mojave Air and Space Port.
  • Old Fashion Nostalgia in Chino (KCNO) – a quintessential diner with a classic WWII vibe and a lot of classic aircraft in and around the ramp. Bring a camera!
  • Bisson Burgers at Catalina (KAVX) – or if you’re not a meat eater, then prepare yourself for one of the best homemade chocolate chip or oatmeal chocolate chip cookies! Well worth the checkout.
  • And don’t forget… Eureka! here at Hawthorne (KHHR) – a modern gastropub with an incredible menu, craft beers, and drinks (for after your flight, of course) and with patrons ranging from local pilots to Space Xers who love to chat all things aviation!

So next time you’re planning a flight, be sure to make a foodie pit stop part of the adventure!
