Recently, a Beechcraft Super King Air made a real-world use of the Garmin Safe Return™ Emergency Autoland system at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport after experiencing a rapid loss of pressurization. The Autoland system alerted ATC, selected an airport, executed a descent, and landed safely without incident. While investigations continue, it is a powerful example of how modern avionics are redefining safety in general aviation.

How does it work?
The Autoland system allows anyone in the cabin to activate it with the touch of a button in the event of an emergency. The aircraft will automatically communicate with air traffic control, navigate to a suitable airport, avoid terrain, and perform a fully autonomous landing.
