Back to School: Schedule your Next Flight Lesson

The kids are back in class. The schedule finally has some room in it.

Drop them off, drive to CalAir, and take a lesson of your own. CalAir Aviation runs one-on-one training around your schedule, which means we can build a program that fits between drop-off and pickup. Contact our team to get started.

Back to School, Your Turn

Every September, the calendar resets. Practices, carpools, and homework go back on the board, and somewhere in there a few hours open up that were not there in August.

Most of our students are working adults and parents. They are not taking a semester off to fly full time. They are training twice a week, consistently, and finishing their Private Pilot License in four to six months.

All training at CalAir is one-on-one, scheduled around you. There are no fixed class times to work around and no cohort to keep pace with.

If You Haven’t Heard, the G7+ Is Here

Our new Cirrus SR20 G7+ is on the flight line at Hawthorne Airport, and it changes what a training aircraft can do.

At the center of it is the Cirrus Perspective Touch+ flight deck by Garmin. Dual touchscreen controllers replace the knob-turning that has defined general aviation avionics for decades, and the larger widescreen displays give you far more room to see what matters.

A few of the highlights:

  • Safe Return Emergency Autoland — if the pilot becomes incapacitated, a passenger can press one button. The aircraft takes control, coordinates with air traffic control, navigates to a suitable airport, lands, comes to a stop, and shuts down the engine.
  • Stick shaker — a jet feature, first in its class on a piston single. The yokes physically vibrate to warn you of an approaching stall.
  • Alerts-linked checklists — the right checklist appears the moment the alert does, with a scroll wheel to mark items complete.
  • 3D SafeTaxi and Runway Occupancy Awareness — a three-dimensional view of the airport while taxiing, plus traffic alerts for potential runway conflicts.

Safe Return does not replace training, judgment, or emergency procedures. It is an additional layer for the rare situation where a pilot cannot safely continue the flight.

Mid-Training in a G6? Come See What’s New

You do not have to switch aircraft to experience the G7+. If you are partway through your training in one of our SR20s or SR22s, book a flight in the G7+ and see the differences firsthand.

It is a useful hour. You will fly the same airframe you already know, with a cockpit built around a different philosophy.

What you will notice right away:

  • Automatic fuel selection — the system alternates tanks every five gallons on its own
  • Push-button start — no mixture and boost pump choreography
  • Touchscreen controllers instead of concentric knobs for nearly every function
  • Aircraft systems synoptic pages — engine, fuel, and electrical status at a glance

For licensed pilots already flying Cirrus, this is also the starting point for a G7+ differences checkout. Ask us what your specific requirements look like.

Or Keep Building Time in the Rest of the Fleet

The G7+ is the newest aircraft on the line, not the only good one. CalAir operates California’s largest all-Cirrus SR fleet, and every aircraft on it carries Cirrus Perspective+ avionics and the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System.

Rates start at $380 per hour for the SR20, $425 for the SR22, and $485 for the turbocharged SR22T. If you are working toward a rating, building currency, or just want to stay sharp through the fall, the schedule is open.

A Few More Reasons to Start This Fall

  • The marine layer backs off. Fall brings some of the most reliable flying weather of the year in Southern California.
  • Start with an Introductory Flight Lesson. $1,425 covers two sessions, ground instruction, 2 hours of simulator time, and 1.5 hours of flight time in a Cirrus SR20.
  • Our all-new SIM room. An FAA-approved Cirrus AATD with TorqueSim controls, 65-inch wrap-around screens, and a realistic CAPS pull simulator. Count up to 20 hours toward your Instrument Rating.
  • Destination lessons. Log training hours en route to a weekend trip instead of staying in the pattern.
  • Instructors held to factory standards. Every CalAir instructor has completed the full Cirrus Training Center Instructor course and requalifies every six months.
  • 50-hour inspections. We inspect our fleet at half the FAA-required interval.

Class Is Back in Session. So Are You.

Whether you are starting from zero, finishing a rating, or curious what the G7+ feels like, our instructors will build the program around your schedule.
